This program is over ten years old and has worked with thousands of juvenile offenders, their victims and families. The process is facilitated by trained mediators and provides an opportunity for:

Mediation is an increasingly popular and effective process for resolving divorce and family-related issues. It creates a constructive, safe and confidential environment in which a couple may reach an agreeable conclusion to the marital relationship or a mutually satisfactory resolution of a wide variety of marital or family matters. With the guidance of an impartial professional mediator, the couple is encouraged to develop communication, identify the issues involved and negotiate an agreement that meets the needs and interests of each party. In the context of the dissolution, this agreement becomes legally binding and enforceable by the court. You may call for more information or contact us by email. Shoplifting Education Program This class provides juveniles that are first time offenders for petty theft violations or shoplifting violations with the opportunity to accept responsibility for their actions. The class is a combination of legal awareness, rights and responsibilities and intra-family mediation. Classes are offered monthly and are currently being held at the ICM offices. Each class lasts approximately two hours in length. Restitution Services Restoring the victim and the community means addressing the economic losses that result from crime. Our staff and mediators spend significant amounts of time with each of the parties often meeting in their homes - in order to be certain that all the issues and losses are given adequate attention. Through the process of mediation or conciliation, the victim and offender are able to reach a written agreement that is satisfactory and legally binding. This agreement usually serves as the conditions of the offender's diversion or court ordered restitution - but may also be enforced in civil courts. After an agreement is made, the restitution specialist will monitor restitution payments. These may include community service as well as financial restitution. The Institute can also refer offenders to jobs program run by Friends Outside, another program within the Center for Community Reconciliation.
